Privacy Policy

MemeYou is operated by Sparkly, LLC ("we"). It has no accounts, no ads and no third-party trackers, and we never sell your personal data or share it for advertising. This policy covers the MemeYou iPhone app and this website.

Who can use MemeYou

You must be 18 or older. Only upload a photo of yourself, or of your own pet. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the app, email us.

Photos you upload

When you make a GIF, your photo is sent securely to our server and to OpenAI to make your GIFs. OpenAI first checks the photo with an automated moderation model, then its image model generates the frames. We refuse photos flagged as sexual by automated checks. We can't reliably detect a child's photo, so the 18+ and own-photo rules apply.

The screen where you add a photo says that it goes to our server and to OpenAI. Adding a photo is your agreement to this. If you don't add one, no photo is sent.

We don't store your photos or GIFs. Our server handles them only to pass the request along and return the result. We never create or store face templates, faceprints or other biometric identifiers.

OpenAI receives your photo as our service provider. Under its API terms, OpenAI may keep photos for a limited time, for example to monitor for abuse. See OpenAI's policies.

What stays on your iPhone

Your GIFs, stickers and chosen photos are stored only on your iPhone until you delete them. If you save or share a GIF, it goes wherever you send it, and we can't recall it.

The app asks for permission before it saves a GIF to your Photos library, and it only uses a photo you choose.

What we keep on our server

To run the service and stop abuse, we keep the following, linked to a random device ID that the app creates and stores in your iPhone's Keychain:

  • Your free GIF, pack credits and subscription expiry date
  • Which packs you've unlocked, and how many generations are left
  • App Store transaction records (transaction identifiers, product and date), so that each purchase is credited once
  • Daily counters of the GIFs each device requested, and short-lived records of GIFs being made, to enforce limits
  • Apple App Attest keys, used to confirm that requests come from the real app

The device ID is random, and it isn't your name or your Apple Account. We don't ask for your name or email in the app. We keep these records while they're needed to provide the service and to meet our legal and accounting duties.

Purchases

Apple handles all payments. We never see your card details. We receive a signed record of each transaction from Apple to confirm it.

Service providers

  • OpenAI moderates photos and generates the frames for your GIFs.
  • Cloudflare hosts this website, our server and our database, and processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver them.
  • Apple provides the App Store and purchases.

We don't sell your personal data, and we don't use it for advertising.

This website

This website sets no cookies and has no ads, analytics or tracking. Cloudflare hosts it and processes standard request data, such as IP addresses, to deliver pages. If you pause the example GIFs, your browser remembers that choice on your device, and it isn't sent to us.

Delete my data

On your iPhone. Open Settings in the app and tap Delete My GIFs and Photos. This removes your GIFs, stickers and photos from your iPhone, and they can't be recovered. Deleting the app removes them too.

On our server. Email support@memeyou.app and ask us to remove your device record. The app doesn't show your device ID, so if you bought anything, include your App Store order ID and the purchase date to help us find it. We'll remove your device record, unlocks, daily counters and App Attest keys, and we'll tell you if we can't find a matching record. Any unused credits or unlocks are lost. We may keep transaction records where we need them to meet legal and accounting duties.

To cancel a subscription, use your Apple Account settings. Deleting data doesn't cancel it. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights, such as access to your data. Email us to use them.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above.
